Dr. Izycky possesses extensive experience working with neurodiversity and neurocomplexity, specifically supporting clients who struggle with addictions to dopamine-rich behaviors such as sex, alcohol, sport, and gambling. Her unique approach integrates traditional psychological therapy with nervous system regulation practices, helping individuals move from a state of chronic dysregulation toward long-term stability, peace, and balanced wellbeing

Her work focuses on nervous system regulation to help performers transition from a chronically upregulated, or “tired but wired,” state into one of stability and “conscious recovery”. By integrating evidence-based neuropsychology with somatic practices like Yoga Nidra and Yin Yoga, she helps athletes engage their parasympathetic nervous system to improve heart rate variability (HRV), lower cortisol levels, enhance sleep quality, and maintain a state of “flow” during critical pressure points. The ability to slow down and connect with conscious thoughts and emotions rather than acting impulsively or habitually are the mental skills practices required for ultimate resilience in and out of sport.

What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra, which directly translates to “Yogic Sleep” or “Connected Sleep,” is a systematic method of mastering total relaxation while maintaining alert awareness. Unlike common Western misconceptions of relaxation – such as watching TV or scrolling through a phone, which actually stimulate the brain’s neurotransmitter systems – Yoga Nidra is a deliberate physical, emotional, and mental skills practice. It is designed to offer a nourishing and replenishing experience to the entire mind-body system.

The benefits

Brain State Optimisation

The practice is recognised for shifting the brain into a theta wave state, which is associated with deep healing and restoration. This leads to measurable improvements in heart rate variability (HRV), overall sleep quality and reduction in cortisol levels.

Nervous System Regulation

For high performers who spend much of their time “upregulated” in the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight), Yoga Nidra provides a critical opportunity to down-regulate and access deep relaxation. It allows the system to spend time in the parasympathetic nervous system, which is essential for managing cellular inflammation, aiding recovery, boosting immunity, and reducing the risk of injury.

Cognitive and Emotional Balance

Psychologically, Yoga Nidra helps free the mind from stored distress and anxiety. By cultivating a state of one-pointed awareness or being a “witness” to your thoughts, it prevents the cognitive compromise that leads to impulsive actions or uncontrolled aggression during high-pressure performance. This stability ensures you remain in a state of “flow” rather than becoming overwhelmed. It creates a neuropsychological environment that is highly receptive and open to neural rewiring.
